Breed Fit Help

Find a Better Starting Size for Your Dog

Not sure where to start?

Use your dog's breed and weight as a quick reference to narrow down the most likely size. Because dogs of the same breed can vary greatly in chest width, back length, build, age, and weight distribution, breed and weight should never be used alone to choose a final size.

For the best fit, always measure your dog and confirm the measurements with our Size Guides before ordering.

Quick Breed & Weight Reference

M

Approx. Weight: 30–45 lb

Common starting points may include:

Bulldog · Australian Shepherd · Border Collie · Smaller Pit Bull · Medium Goldendoodle

Best for medium-built dogs that fall near this weight range.

Before ordering: Confirm your dog's measurements in our Size Guides.

L

Approx. Weight: 45–60 lb

Common starting points may include:

Australian Shepherd · Border Collie · Husky · Pit Bull · Boxer · Smaller German Shepherd

This size often works as a starting point for medium-to-large dogs with a moderate build.

Before ordering: Confirm Chest Girth and Back Length in our Size Guides.

XL

Approx. Weight: 60–75 lb

Common starting points may include:

Pit Bull · Boxer · Husky · German Shepherd · Labrador Retriever · Golden Retriever

A common starting range for many full-grown medium and large breeds.

Before ordering: Use Chest Girth as your primary size reference, then check Back Length for overall fit and coverage.

2XL

Approx. Weight: 75–96 lb

Common starting points may include:

Large German Shepherd · Labrador Retriever · Golden Retriever · Rottweiler · Doberman · Smaller Cane Corso

This size may suit larger or broader-built dogs within the recommended measurement range.

Before ordering: Always compare your dog's actual measurements with our Size Guides.

3XL

Approx. Weight: 96+ lb

Common starting points may include:

Cane Corso · Mastiff · Great Dane · Saint Bernard · Newfoundland

Designed as a starting point for many extra-large and giant breeds.

Because body proportions vary significantly among giant breeds, measurement is especially important for 3XL dogs.

Please check Chest Girth, Back Length, and Neck Girth before ordering.

Breed & Weight Are Reference Only

Measurements Come First

Breed names and weight ranges are provided only to help you identify a possible starting size.

Two dogs of the same breed and weight can still require different sizes due to differences in:

  • Chest width
  • Back length
  • Neck size
  • Body shape
  • Muscle build
  • Coat thickness

For this reason, your dog's actual body measurements should always determine the final size.

How to Choose the Right Size

For LovinPet dog apparel, follow this order:

1. Start With Chest Girth

Measure around the widest part of your dog's chest.

2. Check Back Length

Confirm that the back length provides the fit and coverage you want.

3. Check Neck Girth

Make sure your dog's neck measurement does not exceed the listed maximum.

4. Between Two Sizes?

If Chest Girth fits more than one size, compare Back Length to choose the better overall fit.

Size Guides

Our Size Guides show you exactly where to measure and how to compare your dog's measurements with each size.

Not Sure Between Two Sizes?

Dogs don't always fit neatly into one size range — especially broad-chested, long-backed, muscular, or mixed-breed dogs.

If your dog's breed or weight suggests one size but the measurements suggest another, follow the measurements.

Remember:

Breed = Starting Point
Weight = Reference Only
Measurements = Final Size Decision
